Service Journey

Five decades of unwavering service to Srila Prabhupada's mission โ€” from temple rooms to boardrooms, always guided by devotion.

Temple Leadership

GBC Member โ€” South East United States

As a Governing Body Commissioner for the South East United States, Tamohara Dasa carries one of ISKCON's most significant responsibilities. The GBC, established by Srila Prabhupada as the ultimate managing authority of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, oversees the spiritual and organizational well-being of ISKCON centers worldwide.

His zone encompasses a vibrant and diverse region โ€” from the bustling temples of Atlanta and Miami to the growing communities in the Carolinas, Tennessee, and beyond. In this role, he provides strategic guidance to temple presidents, resolves organizational challenges, oversees financial stewardship, and ensures that the standards of worship, outreach, and devotee care remain aligned with Srila Prabhupada's vision.

Strengthening Temple Communities

Tamohara Dasa's approach to temple management reflects his background in educational psychology. Rather than imposing top-down directives, he has championed a collaborative model that empowers local leaders. His visits to temples are less about inspection and more about mentorship โ€” sitting with temple councils, understanding their challenges, and helping them develop sustainable solutions.

Under his guidance, several temples in the South East region have expanded their congregation programs, improved their deity worship standards, developed youth engagement initiatives, and strengthened their financial foundations. His emphasis on training and empowerment has created a culture of competent, confident local leadership throughout his zone.

  • Established quarterly leadership retreats for temple presidents
  • Implemented congregation development guidelines across the region
  • Oversaw renovation and expansion of multiple temple facilities
  • Created mentorship pathways for emerging community leaders
Book Distribution

Book Distribution & Public Engagement

Srila Prabhupada considered the distribution of his books to be the most important activity of ISKCON. Tamohara Dasa has carried this instruction forward with both strategic vision and personal example. He has organized "book marathon" campaigns, developed training programs for distributors, and created innovative approaches to reaching new audiences with Vedic literature.

Beyond book distribution, he has been instrumental in developing interfaith dialogue programs, academic outreach to universities, and public events that introduce Vedic culture to mainstream American audiences. His ability to present Krishna consciousness in a way that is intellectually credible yet spiritually powerful has earned respect from both academic and religious communities.

Family & Congregation Programs

Recognizing that the majority of ISKCON's growth comes through congregation members, he has championed programs that serve families: marriage counseling workshops, home programs, children's education, and community celebration events that make the temple a center of social and spiritual life.

Youth Development

His educational background informs a special focus on youth engagement. He has supported the creation of youth retreats, mentorship programs, and service opportunities that give second-generation devotees a sense of ownership and belonging within the movement, addressing one of ISKCON's most critical challenges.

Interfaith & Academic Relations

As a holder of a doctorate and a serious scholar of Vedic tradition, Tamohara Dasa represents ISKCON in interfaith councils, academic symposia, and cultural forums. His participation has helped position ISKCON as a respected voice in American religious discourse.

"Service is not a burden we carry; it is a gift we are given. Every challenge in managing a temple, guiding a community, or resolving a conflict is Krishna's personal invitation to deepen our dependence on Him."
